Southern 450 Round One Eastbourne Arlington Stadium Welcome to the 5th Mascar Championship round and first of the Southern 450 rounds, Well at last the sun shining and predicted hottest weekend so far this year what else could we ask for, with 15 drivers booked in with the #50 Deka Roseblade pulling out at the last minute due to family commitments things were looking good and the first outing for #04 Ian Cameron with his newly aquired car on probably the tightest track to date things were going to be interesting. With our main title sponsor Archer Investments Ltd in attendance to watch the action Unfortunately after practice the #04 picked up an alternator fault and in his judgment decided maybe this wasn't the track to be making his debut on and decided to park the car and take a seat to watch the action, so down to 13 cars to take the grid for heat one. Heat one So the action was with the #24 and #75 off the front row and it was the #75 to make the break and take the flag to flag win with the new track and cars not knowing the set up, the only other real movers was that of the #22 who made his way up to third battling with the #28 of Nathan Bath for second only to lose it on turn 2 and spin into the infield, and the #11 who started 12th who made her way up to the 4th place position with the #48 of Ian Kerry taking the third place spot and also the highest placed rookie, The only casualty was that of the #05 of H hardy who took another trip in to the wall damaging the front suspension arm.making more work for his now hard worked pit crew. Result......... 1st #75 Russ Best 2nd #28 Nathan Bath 3rd #48 Ian Kerry Heat two Saw the loss of the #23 who was unable to grid and the #48, after the #48 picked up a puncture driving through the pit area and retiring straight away into the infield, with the #49 and #16 off the front row it was the #16 of Gill Hughes who got away first again breaking away from the pack to take her maiden victory from again flag to flag ,things looking like the front row was the place to be.,with a pack of seven cars all locked in battle for the 2nd place honours, casualties of this race were that of the #49 who spun out into the infield and the #17 of Paul Patrick who spun on the last lap in turn three, the battle for 2nd was taken by #24 of Lawrence Bath with son Nathan Bath #28 taking 3rd. Result........... 1st #16 Gill Hughes 2nd #24 Lawrence Bath 3rd #28 Nathan Bath Heat Three and Final Well things were definetely going to hot up for this one, especially for the #05 of H Hardy although he didnt know it yet and his now over worked pit crew were in for more work as H decided that he was going to be the one Mascar that was on fire tonight quite literally! It all started with the #44 and #55 of Paul Bennett and Mark Bates off the front row at the drop of the flag it was the #44 the first to show with the now confident #55 hot on his heels but it was the #22 who took to the out side and took the 2nd place spot away, eventually finding his way through to the 1st place position and pulling away from the pack with the #28 of Nathan Bath making his way into the second place spot after a collision between the #55 and the #28 resulting in the #55 parked in the infield ( open verdict on this one at present ) and the #75 moving up to third then all hell let loose with the #05 engine letting go in a big Days of Thunder style resulting in a fire and the reds brought out. The now half lap lead that the #22 had deminished down to nothing, On the restart it was the #22 who held off the #28 followed by the #75 with the #24 taking the #11 for the fourth place position, Then with 3 to go out come the reds again for the #17 who took avoiding action from hitting a now slow car of #44 again resulting in him spun across the start straight the race was then Red & cheqered, with the result standing, the first red /cheqered of the season, The Surprise of the night was that our main title sponsor and Mascar promoter had already had this meeting down as one of the Purse Meetings (Prize Money meetings) this was not advertised or anyone told of this except promoter Steve Stanford #22 and Steve Archer of Archer Investments, the agreement was that if the #22 took a top prize place then any monies would be handed down to 2nd-3rd & 4th resulting in the finishing order as follows: 1st #22 Steve Stanford - 2nd #28 Nathan Bath taking 1st place Monies, - 3rd #75 Russ Best taking 2nd Place monies, 4th #24 Lawrence Bath taking 3rd Place Monies, Final winner .....................................................#22 Steve Stanford Overall Meeting Winners joint .............................. #75 Russ Best - #28 Nathan Bath Southern 450 Leaders Joint............................... #75 Russ Best - #28 Nathan Bath Weather hot sunny...... Things were looking very promising with 17 drivers booked into race, and the elusive #05 of H Hardy making his debut with his very nice looking car after recovering from his incident. Well what can we say rain again !!!!!!! Will it be wets or slicks ???? The track was drying but was still abit greasy ! Heat One 16 Cars lined up ,with the #23 of Wayne Galloway unable to grid due to battery problems. With the majority of drivers choosing the slick option and only 2 cars choosing the wet option tyre the #17 of Paul Patrick and the #44 of Paul Bennett had they made the correct choice ? The answer was soon to be revealed! Here goes i can only give you the point of view from the seat of the #22 car and a quick insite to what happened, With heavens again sprinkling a small shower it was evident that again most of the field had now chosen the wrong tyre and on the start it then become apparent that it was a damage limitation for 98% of the field, with the #17 of Paul Patrick making easy work of everyone followed closely by the #44 car of Paul Bennett who's gamble or inside information had paid off with the two cars lapping the field at least once and in some cases twice, the first driver on the slick option was that of #75 Russ Best and followed closely by #28 of Nathan Bath who had got the best of the rest, the only incident was that of #69 who took a trip in to the wall after an incident with another car and #69 getting loose down the start finishing straight with the #16 stopping to avoid contact with both #16 and #69 been told to retire to the infield, mean time the #17 and #44 made the rest of field look like they were in a different league. the race again didn't see much action with a few spinners which was inevitable and the #17 hitting the wall after the chequered flag after attempting a pass on the #50 fortunately he was able to do a minor repair to resume the nights racing and the #22 taking the #01 for the fourth place position on the last lap, Result 1st #17 Paul Patrick 2nd #44 Paul Bennett 3rd #75 Russ Best. Heat two Was it going to be Patricks Hat Trick or Bennetts Burn Up or just Plain Sailing for the Brighton Based Best, Well after some major decision making in the pits the wets were the choice for the third time this year!!!!! Roll on the summer sunshine!!!! with the reverse of the first heat and with the only two cars to stay on the slicks , that of #24 Lawrence Bath and Son Nathan #28, with every one else agreeing with the Patricks and Bennetts earlier decision. On the front row was the #48 of Ian Kerry alongside him was the #11 of Juli Stanford when the green dropped it was the #11 who took up the running ,making a pass around the outside going into turn 1,the #22 of Steve Stanford was charging through the pack and made a pass in lap 5 and took the #11 on the inside coming out of turn 2 . No one saw the #22 after that and he went on to take the win lapping up to 8 th place. Further down the field there was a collision between the #05 of H Hardy and the #16 of Gill Hughes after the #05 pressed the wrong pedal by mistake and took the #16 high towards the bank ,resulting in yellow flags though both drivers managed to rejoin relatively unscathed, .the only thing left for the #05 to hit would be the pacecar then he would have had a full house, as he had already visited the armco on at least 2 occasions, taking the newness out of his car,His debut meeting proving to be abit of a handful!!! The #11 held on for 2nd place with the #48 finishing in 3rd but unfortunately the #48 was found to have a technical infringement and was disqualified allowing the #75 to take 3rd place spot. Result 1st #22 Steve Stanford 2nd #11 Juli Stanford 3rd #75 Russ Best Heat three and the final.... The grid was a reverse of points scored with the highest at the rear, all 17 cars gridded and it was the #16 of Gill Hughes who took pole with the #24 Lawrence Bath on the front row.At the green it was the #16 of Gill Hughes who took to the front, further down the field the #11 of Juli Stanford was tagged and spun coming out of turn 4, everyone managed to avoid the #11 who rejoined at the back.At the front the #16 was being challanged hard by the #69 of Simon Johnson who made a pass coming out of turn 4 and took the lead followed by the #01 of reigning Champion Richard Wilkes. The #50 of Deka Roseblade and the #22 of Steve Stanford were gaining on the top 3 along with the #75 of our unlukiest driver to date Russ Best who has yet to finish a race. Will he be lucky tonight? Russ made his way to 2nd place and then took the #69 coming out of turn 4. Russ was on a mission and roared away and the battle was for the 2nd spot between the #69 the #01 the #22 and the #50 of Deka Roseblade .The #69 fought off the challenges from the #01 and held on for the 2nd place his highest placed finish to date, with the #01 finishing in 3rd .The #50 finished 4th ahead of the #22 to take his highest placed finish to date as well. Big well done to all with only a couple of minor incidents and some poor conditions quick and close racing and everyone going home with no damage is the situation that we all want and a special thanks must go to all of the officials for making this all this happen, Next Meeting Arlington on 22nd May 2010 when the championship hots up with the #01 - #99 missing from the grid nows the time to close the gap up on the front runners, with the midfield and the race to make the chase still on for all lower scoring drivers with 22 signed on drivers that all important 11th championship posistion to get in to the top 11 for the chase cup and Top championship contender. With the title for the semi pro championship also a close running thing. Ram Motor-sport Sponsored Birmingham Wheels 400 Saturday 1st May 2010 Welcome to the 3rd round of the Mascar championship 2nd round of the Ram Motor sport Sponsored Birmingham Wheels 400 and the second round of the Incarace "I Factor Event" unfortunately we had to settle for Paul Gerrard ( Simon Cowell) and pits Control Lucy Royal (Amanda Holden), and our very own Pierce was unable to attend race director Mike Wilkes, But saying all that we had an excellent stand in the form of our new(Cheryl Cole) Lynne Dakin who performed an excellent job throughout the evening (Watch out Mike she's after your Job)! Well where do we start! With the promise of the first time outing of #05 H failing to make the meeting after a work incident things started with a bit of a whats going to happen next! and things got slightly worse for the #75 of unlucky Russ Best who after depositing the contents of the engine at Hednesford earlier in the year the stricken unit decided that enough was enough in practice and let go. well already the grid down to 18 things could only go up hill from here, But then just before the first heat #19 Kevin Saterthwaite decided that technical problems were going to strike so 17 it is. The #19 later sorting his problem and making his appearance in the second heat. All we needed now was the promise of rain with #11 of Mrs "I Love the Wet" Juli Stanford doing her normal rain dance around the pits even fitting the wets ready! much to every one's relief way too early she obviously had something up her sleeve though for later on in the evening. So Heat One With the #24 of the returning Lawrence Bath and #17 of Paul Patrick taking to the front row with the other 15 cars lined in average points positions highest average to the rear and #48 of Ian Kerry now taking his rightful grid position after completing his rookie meetings, things were going to be interesting,Well at the drop of the flag the first to show were the two front runners with the now sorted #22 making light work and taking the lead with his new found confidence in the car and the #31 of Pete Gould also having a breath of wind and now flying through the pack for the second place position. The #99 of Steve Dakin hot on their heels and coming through the pack , an incident on turn 2 saw the #11 of Juli Stanford spun out and parked high on the bank for the rest of the heat, followed by then the #17 of Paul Patrick doing a sympathy spin but managing to get restarted and rejoin, The #01 of Rich Wilkes now on the move and gaining the 4th place from a fading #24, with the #22 and #31 now pulling clear the race for the minor places was hotting up with the pursuing #99 and #01 locked in a battle and slowing each other up allowing the two front runners to have a comfortable lead, further down the pack again saw a very loose car of #28 Nathan Bath and #49 of Dean Nixon clashing resulting in a spin from the #28 and the #44 of Paul Bennett collecting the #28 with the #28 heading for the infield too fast for the officials comfort the #49 penalised for the incident and DSQ from the heat and starting to the rear of the grid until further notice, the #28 was loaded up for speeding in a safe area and a dangerous act. The race continued further down the field with the #16 of Gill Hughes taking a good 6th place followed by #50 and #44 with the #69 of Simon Johnson who had moved up from the rear of grid taking a spin in the last corner of the race and scored a DNF,The only other major mover was the #01 who took the third place from the #99 in the closing laps. Result 1st #22 Steve Stanford 2nd #31 Pete Gould 3rd #01 Richard Wilkes DNF- #69 Spin #55 handling Problems #11 Contact #48 not known. DSQ #49 unnecessary contact, and #28 as above. Heat Two Again more thrills and spills and what a race probably one of the closest finishes to date, It all started well with the #17 and #16 of Gill Hughes on pole closely followed by the #24 and #99 when on the start what can only be described as a freak accident happened ending with the #31 and #99 hitting the pit corner wall and both cars out of any contention for the rest of the meeting but with the verdict still open on this one as to what happened, With the race stopped both drivers were out of the cars and although sore with bumps and bruises looked in good health, The race was then restarted with the now #19 of Kevin Satterthwaite back in contention still completing his rookie meetings from the rear, First to make any impact was again the #22 who got a break around the outside of the #01 and #24 with the #01 also taking the #24 and taking the #22 on lap 6 but loosing the position on the next pass with the #16 taking up the front running after the #17 of Paul Patrick had a moment coming out of turn 4 also allowing the #22 up the inside with the #01 around the outside and what happened next was a battle lap after lap between the #16 #22 and #01 but with not a lot of room for errors and bumper to bumper, With the main action at the front of the field lets not forget the now charging #11 and #69 #23 and #48 the #48 pulling a controversial move on the #23 of Wayne Galloway resulting in some minor contact, with the now repaired #44 of Paul Bennett chasing hard and #50 of Deka Roseblade now with a more suitable set up all involved in a battle for the lower places, Followed by Kevin Satterthwaite in the #19 bringing up the rear, But back to the front were the hard charging #01 eventually gets his break when the #16 made a small mistake pushing out wide and allowing the #01 up the inside with 2 to go the #22 now leading with the #01 around the outside with both drivers diving into the final corner and both getting push it was a sprint to the line with the #01 of Rich Wilkes getting the better by 0.10 of a second one of the closest finishes nascar style in the series history with the #16 Gill Hughes keeping her well earned 3rd place and Juli Stanford #11 4th, Result 1st #01 Richard Wilkes 2nd #22 Steve Stanford 3rd #16 Gill Hughes DNF #31- #99 DNS #75- #32 with misfire The 3rd heat and Final Well the rain queen got her way and her dancing around the pits along with one of our judges singing must have woke up the rain god and yes it came down, the only saviour was it was going to be wet, and frantic tyre changes were the order of the day with everyone except #24 lawrence Bath fitting wet tyres interesting wasnt the word for this one but money was having it that The #11 would be following in her idols foot steps Denny Hamlin and maybe taking the final. or was the #01 going to spoil her day! On pole was the #24 of Lawrence Bath the only car on slicks in what can only be described as torrential conditions along side was the #17 of Paul Patrick. The first to show was the #16 of Gill Hughes who drove a blinder around the outside of turn one to take the lead, with the #11 of Juli Stanford moving up to 2nd followed by the #01 of Richard Wilkes .The #01 made a pass on the low grove and moved into the 2nd position ,The top 3 pulled away from the pack and further down the field the #17 of Paul Patrick was recovering after his new found confidence with his wet tryes and making his way through the pack moving past the #22 of Steve Stanford to take the 4th place position. The #16 of Gill Hughes went wide going into turn 1 after picking up a missfire allowing the #01 and the #11 up the inside with the #17 gaining every lap and eventually moving into the 3rd place spot. The normal close racing was hampered drastically by visability and the standing water, and the finishing order was to remain .The only other casualty was the #49 of Dean Nixon who took a spin on the start /finish straight but managed to rejoin the field. The Ram Motorsport sponsord Driver of the Day quite rightly went to #17 Paul Patrick who took his first ever podium position. Heat Two - The front row again saw the #22 and the #75 side by side but it was the #75 who started on pole ,this time choosing wet tires for his machine, although the track was starting to dry a little. The green flag dropped and the #22 got a cracking start unfortunately the #01 spun going into turn 1 ,all drivers managed to miss him and he rejoined at the back of the field. The #99 and the #01 were on a mission and soon caught the #22, the #99 took the high grove and passed the #22 for the lead , the #01 tried the high grove as well and moved into 2nd place After a few more laps the #01 staying on the high grove took the lead from the #99.Both started to pull away from the #22 who was suffering handling problems, but it was the #11 after her heat win who was closing fast on the #22 a nose to tail battle between husband and wife began but it wasnt until the last lap that the #11 passed the #22 to take the 3rd place position. Heat Three and the Final The grid was a reverse of the finishing positions from heat 2 so saw the #75 on pole with the #16 of Gill Hughes alongside him .Hughes had a flyer but was soon under pressure from the #99, the #16 went wide coming out of turn 3 and allowed the #99 to take the lead, chasing hard was the #22 and was soon on the tail of the #99, the #11 worked her way up to 3rd with the #01 hot on her heals A spin for the #49 of Dean Nixon going into turn 3 brought out stationary yellows and the top 4 bunched up, unfortunately the #22 had engine problems and pulled into the infield, giving the #11 the 2nd spot. The top 3 pulled away from the pack , with the #11 challenging hard for the lead but a very smooth and defensive drive from the #99 saw him take the chequered flag and his first Final win of 2010.Again another great drive from rookie #44 Paul Bennett saw him take the 4th place position. and also fastest lap for a new rookie. Logically speaking... drill holes What do drill holes have to do with racing and Mascars? When you purchase a quarter-inch drill bit what are you really buying? The point? It’s not just about the cars. It’s as much about integral aspects of racing like maintenance, durability, performance, running budgets and let’s not forget about fun. Entering any Motorsport or within any series is a decision that warrants consideration. Mascar are an alternative to the demands of full-size National Hotrod or any race car, while still delivering high-performance racing. The best of both worlds! It dont get any better!
